Kindergarten & TK FAQ
Can we meet our child’s teacher before the first day of school?
Yes, there will be an Open House prior to the first day of school! Families can visit the classroom and meet their child’s teacher.
Can I stay in the classroom with my new student?
Once the students have settled in, and after Back-to-School Night on the 3rd week of school, families can schedule a brief visit to the classroom. If volunteers are needed, teachers will reach out to families with specifics.
Is there naptime?
Students are allowed to rest as needed and a cozy space is always available. Typically after lunch, the teacher will read a story aloud, when students are encouraged to relax before afternoon activities.
Bathrooms
Both kindergarten & TK classrooms have direct access to the bathrooms. Please provide an extra set of clothes in case of accidents.
What’s the first day like?
It’s a full day. You will need to say goodbye to your student outside the classroom right after Morning Circle before they march in. (Parents are asked not to visit the classroom until after Back-To-School night, in order to help children adjust to their new school life.) Immediately after Morning Circle on the first day of school, all parents are invited to coffee with Principal Glover in the cafeteria, and are welcome to discuss questions and concerns.
What if my child cries or doesn’t want to go in?
The teachers are very experienced at handling first day jitters and they will have fun, low-pressure activities planned for the first day. Their advice is to cheerfully but firmly say goodbye and move on.
