Please donate a cake to our annual cake walk. Big, small, funny or beautiful are all welcome and the more the merrier. Please sign up here.

Read-A-Thon

The Read-A-Thon is HAPPENING! From February 19-28, students will be recording their minutes reading (in class and anywhere else!). Each student should have received forms to track reading minutes, pledge forms and the important raffle tickets! Every day from Feb. 20-March 1st, students who read the day before can put a raffle ticket in the bucket at morning circle to try to win prizes from local book stores.

New this year is a Civil Rights Leaders theme. Every school day, the entire school will be learning about a different civil rights leader. We’ll kick it off with a short biography of the day’s leader at morning circle, followed by further reading in each classroom. Ask your room parent how to volunteer to read in the classroom!

When the big day is over, we’ll also need some help tallying the totals. Please email readathon@harveymilkpfc.org if you’d like to help.

Become a Drag Show Contestant! (Or Better Yet, Convince a Friend)

Winter Peace Assembly

Please mark your calendars for the annual Winter Peace Assembly where each class will present a rehearsed piece onstage to celebrate winter and peace! It’s a wonderful community event to close the calendar year and hopefully many of you can attend!

Students in the YMCA after school program will have the option of eating the after-school supper and students who are picked up directly after school should be fed a snack or dinner at home or elsewhere before the show. All students should be delivered back to school in their classrooms at 5:15pm (teacher may request an earlier drop off) to have a chance to practice before going on stage. Movie Night – COCO

Friday, October 26, 6-8:15pm

Join the Harvey Milk community in the school cafeteria for a family-friendly movie night! This fall we will show the Pixar movie Coco. As an article in the New Yorker describes: [COCO] presents death as a life-affirming inevitability”.  Ultimately, the main message of this film is that families belong together, in life and in death.

Please sign up here to volunteer at the Movie Night!

THE HARVEY MILK CIVIL RIGHTS ACADEMY family would like to honor our ancestors and loved ones who have passed on by putting up an “Ofrenda” in the hallway across from the main office. Anyone and everyone are welcomed to bring a photo, a poem, a symbol representing the person(s) you are honoring, to place on the altar. The altar will be up Monday, October 15 through Friday November 2, 2018.
